Popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akimdele was lambasted by several Nigerians on social media, for organizing a house party during this COVID-19 times.
Her husband and producer, JJC Skillz was also subjected to criticisms, as the couple organized the house party in celebration of Skillz 43rd birthday.
The vitriol began after JJC posted videos from the house party celebration, videos featuring a large crowd merrymaking.
Last Sunday, President Muhammadu Buhari declared a lockdown of Lagos, Ogun and Abuja in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Many States have banned public gatherings and urged its people to practice social distancing in order to mitigate the spread of the virus.
Ironically, Funke Akindele also happens to be a brand ambassador for Dettol and NCDC, major drivers of keeping good hygiene in the country.
As a Dettol ambassador, Akindele was heavily involved in the ‘Clean Naija’ initiative, an initiative which aims to create awareness, educate and drive behavioural change among Nigerians in order to achieve a cleaner nation through the continuous habit of hand washing.
To most, having a house party contradicts the works she has been doing to help mitigate the spread of the virus.
Some of the reactions from Nigerians can be seen below;
Funke Akindele does a Covid-19 add for the NCDC and Dettol. Yet went on the do a party with many people, with someone that just got back from the UK. Why are some Nigerian Celebrities this foolish? Government is trying, "educated people are messing it up.

Funke Akindele is a Dettol ambassador. They have held seminars where she came to teach people about personal hygiene. She’s also a NCDC ambassador. How do you now do the exact things you were telling your fans and Nigerians not to do? As an ambassador, you should know better.

What impression does Funke Akindele leave to those who look up to her after that House party? Not to even talk about her being an ambassador for NCDC.
Seeing Naira Marley there with his boys, Eniola Badmus too?? Missing just one birthday in a lifetime won’t kill you!!!
