Nigerians were Outraged at the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation for headlining six Nigerian nationals in it’s Cybercrime most wanted list.
The FBI, late Friday Night (CAT) uploaded a list of it’s “Cyber most wanted” on it’s official twitter account. The list contains 79 names of cyber criminals involved in business email compromise (BEC) schemes resulting in over $6 million in losses.
Several Nigerians who scrolled through the list were disgruntled at the fact that six Nigerian nationals were used to headline the list, whereas, 16 of which are Russians, 20 Chinese, and 37 men of arabic descent.
Their names include; Richard Izuchukwu Uzuh, Alex Afolabi Ogunshakin, Felix Osilama, Abiola Ayorinde Kayode, Nnamdi Orson Benson and Michael Olorunyomi
Nigerians acknowledged the fact that these criminals must be brought to book, however, they were abhorred at the fact that the FBI headlined Nigerian nationals in the list when they are in the minority.
One Daniel Walter, a Twitter user said that this was a deliberate attempt by the FBI and the US government to drag Nigeria’s name through the mud.
“This is a deliberate attempt to make Nigeria look bad as many people won’t even read the Article
“In the article there are 79 Persons: 16 Russians, 20 Chinese, 6 Nigerians and 37 men of arabic descent but the headline is showing only 6 Nigerians. Smh”
Another twitter user by the name of @one_dosh said, “A cyber crime is committed there are 79 Persons: 16 Russians, 20 Chinese, 6 Nigerians and 37 men of arabic descent.
“Our dearest FBI choose to use 6 Nigerians for their headline,by the time we realize the hate it’ll be so far gone.
Y’all can do better FBI,you can do better”
A Tosin Olugbenga wrote that the headline is an act of racism.
“Racism at its peak.
“This list has: 39 men of Arab origin, 16 Russians,, 20 Chinese/Southeast Asian guys and 6 Nigerians.
“But racist FBI has chosen the only 6 Nigerians as the poster boys for this crime.
Criminals are in every nation of the world but the moment you are black….”
